Mayborn Celebrates America 250 with Community Quilt Project and Smithsonian Screening Series

June 2, 2026

WACO, Texas — The Mayborn Museum Complex at Baylor University is celebrating America's 250th anniversary with two special programs this summer: an America 250 Community Quilt event and a Smithsonian Channel screening series.

America 250 Community Quilt

On Saturday, June 27, 2026, visitors are invited to help create a collaborative quilt that reflects the many voices and stories that shape our nation. During this one-day event in the museum rotunda, guests of all ages can design a fabric square sharing what America means to them and highlighting their unique contributions to the American story. The completed quilt will be displayed at the Mayborn Museum as a lasting community tribute to America's 250th anniversary.

Smithsonian Channel Screening Series

Throughout the summer, the Mayborn Museum will present a Smithsonian Channel screening series featuring documentaries that explore pivotal moments, influential figures, and diverse perspectives from American history. Films include A Star-Spangled Story: Battle for America, America in Color, She The People: Votes for Women, and The Green Book: Guide to Freedom. Screenings will take place on select Saturdays through August and are included with regular museum admission.

As the only Smithsonian Affiliate in Central Texas, the Mayborn Museum is proud to connect local audiences with the Smithsonian's America 250 initiative through engaging programs that encourage learning, reflection, and community participation.
