The Freshwater Fish Collection at the Mayborn Museum Complex consists of over 6000 specimens preserved in alcohol. All but eight specimens are from North America, with 87% of those having been collected in Texas.
In 1978-1979, the 1,900-specimen Dennis Rose Collection was donated to the museum. It is the largest freshwater fish donation in the collection, with 85% of the specimens having been collected in central Texas.
Data from the Mayborn Museum’s Freshwater Fish Collection is included in the on-line database “Fishes of Texas,” compiled by Texas Natural Science Center at the University of Texas, Austin.
